Jaywalking put into perspective

Sometimes it puzzles me how difficult it is for some people to watch where they are going or to pay a little more attention to what they are doing. I consider myself a vigilant person and I aim to be conciderate about my movements. But am I as vigilant as I think I am? - or are people really that clumsy?

Well, I don't know the answer, but I have tried to put jaywalking into perspective. Let's say that an average vigilant person like me only jaywalks two times in a year. It's not that we plan to jaywalk it's merely a distraction by accident. This would be an acceptable frequency of jaywalking - only two times each year.

The world would be so much easier if we could only limit ourselves to this low rate of jaywalking; or would it? There are roughly six billion people worldwide and if we all jaywalk twice a year that would make about twelve billion incidents of jaywalking every year! Wow!

Let's geek the figures a little more... If there are twelve billion incidents of jaywalking every year then there would be about 33 million incidents each day of the year. Thus the chances of jaywalking are 0,005 % or one out of two hundred. This means that for every 200 person you meet he will either walk out in front of you or spill something on you.

Please be tolerant with these people as they are really conciderate and vigilant people using one of their two bad days this year. Next time you are bumped into you don't have to stress out about it; you can relax and express your understanding. This will truly contribute to at more harmonic World.
